Milking Stool - Burnt Black

Burnt Black milking stool, This handmade solid oak stool has been finished using a blow torch to scorch the surface. The burning process brings out the grain on the timber and all the unique characteristics, it also gives is a rich, deep black colour.

To finish the piece the surface is sanded to remove any loose material and the scorching is repeated. Then it it is rubbed over with a fine wire wool before being sealed with various layers of wax and oils. These preserve and seal the timber, the final coating gives the surface a semi gloss surface.

The stools are generally 20/22cm wide depending on the boards and how well the plane. I can make them to various widths so please contact me for a custom quote.

Like all the pieces I make it has been made by hand with traditional hand tools. They are hand planed and cabinet scraped to create a smooth surface. Hand cut tenons with contrasting wedges are used to secure the legs into position. As the timber is reclaimed each piece has a unique character in the grain, shade and texture. These natural features vary in each piece of timber which in turn makes each piece individual.
